Secretary of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee, Abdul Majeed Barakat, stressed that confronting the Iranian mullahs’ regime anywhere in the world will deter its subversive, expansionist project in the region, especially in Syria. Barakat was commenting on the new US sanctions against the Iranian regime.
Barakat stressed that the Ukrainian people are suffering from the Russian-Iranian criminal alliance and its direct aggression against their country, adding that the Syrian people have been suffering for years at the hands of the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies.
The United States on Tuesday imposed new sanctions on Iran for providing Russia with combat drones to use in its invasion of Ukraine.
The US Treasury stated that the new package of sanctions target companies involved in the production and transfer of Iranian drones to Russia, which has been using these drones to launch devastating attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure.
The new US package of sanctions targeted the Shahid Air Industries Research Company, the Russian private military company Wagner, the Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Quds Air Industries. The sanctions also affected two UAE-based airlines which cooperated with an Iranian company that is also subject to sanctions for coordinating flights between Iran and Russia.
