The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) received a delegation from the German Foreign Ministry to discuss the latest developments in Syria, the situation in the liberated areas, and the efforts being made by the Syrian Interim Government to manage the region and improve the living conditions.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-President Abdaulahad Astepho, Secretary of the political committee Abd al-Majid Barakat, member of the political committee Abdullah Kaddo, officials in charge of the Syrian file at the German Embassy in Beirut David Budde and Martin Lohr, and the First Secretary at the German Embassy in Ankara Alexander Kasper.
Astepho thanked Germany for its firm stances on Syria, especially its recent stance on the report of the UN rapporteur Alena Douhan, stressing the need to prevent any attempt to lift sanctions off the Assad regime or rehabilitate it.
Astepho pointed out that the SOC and the Syrian Interim Government have taken effective steps to ensure stability in the liberated areas.
He added that the liberated areas have the largest population density compared to other Syrian regions, which requires greater efforts, especially with regard to supporting the sectors of education and health.
Astepho stressed the need for reopening the Syriac-Assyrian schools in northeastern Syria, and preventing the PYD terrorist militia from imposing their own curricula on schools.
He also stressed that the SOC is ready for a political solution in accordance with the goals of the Syrian revolution and in a manner that achieves stability in Syria.
Barakat spoke about the need to unify American and European efforts to impose sanctions on the Assad regime and its symbols, and to focus on individuals who support the regime.
