The Directorate of Documentation of Violations and Human Rights in the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) denounced the election of the criminal Assad regime as Vice-President of the 2022 World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education, which is being held by UNESCO. It stressed that this move violates the most basic human values and principles.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Directorate said that it condemns this irresponsible move by the UNESCO as it ignores the horrible crimes that the Assad regime has been committing against the Syrian people since 2011, especially against children. It made it clear that the criminal Assad regime is killing children by brutal bombardment and torture, as well as depriving them of their most basic rights to life, education, health, and protection.
The Directorate added that the selection process contradicts the very objectives of the conference and its quest for the right of every child to appropriate care. It said that the Assad regime has made Syrian children homeless and orphans suffering from poverty, hunger and ignorance.
The Directorate indicated that this terrorist regime should have been prevented from participating in the conference, rather than electing it as a vice-president of the Conference.
It stressed that this move is tantamount to legitimizing the crimes of the regime, and reflects total disregard for the blood of Syrian children. It demanded the delegitimization of the regime and suspending it from all international organizations.
