The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the success of the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit. It commended the Kingdom’s and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz’s efforts to unify ranks and restore cooperation among the sisterly Arab Gulf states.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the SOC said that the Syrian people are looking forward to this summit with great hope and optimism with the return of brotherly relations to their previous state and the restoration of the balance to the Arab position towards the issues of the Arab and Islamic nations.
“They are also looking forward to building a pivotal Arab Gulf role that contributes to activating the Arab position towards the Syrian issue; supporting the rights of the Syrian people; and exerting the necessary pressure to make a push for a political solution Syria,” the SOC added.
The SOC highly appreciated the stances of the GCC leaders in the final communique towards the various Arab and regional issues, especially those related to Syria. The GCC leaders reaffirmed commitment to the principled Arab position.
Moreover, the SOC stressed the choice of a political solution based on the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254 in all its provisions, including its calls for the formation of a Transitional Governing Body (TGB) with full powers, drafting a new constitution, and restoring power to the Syrian people. The resolution also stresses the importance of the issue of refugees and the need to ensure their safe, voluntary return within the framework of a political solution.
“The positions of the brothers in the Arab Gulf were clear and principled, especially those related to the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity, and rejection of all attempts to bring about demographic changes in Syria, while condemning the Iranian presence on its soil. The final communique also stressed the necessity of forcing all Iranian militias, the terrorist Hezbollah Militia, and sectarian militias out of Syria.”
The SOC concluded by stressing that Syria is awaiting a more active Arab role that will contribute to putting an end to the nearly 10-year suffering of the Syrian people; help the Syrian people achieve their aspirations for freedom and independence; getting rid of the murderous Assad regime and Iranian sectarian militias; and putting an end the Iranian subversive project in Syria and the region.
