President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, held an expanded meeting with the SOC’s Secretary-General, Abdelbaset Abdullatif, and members of the political committee and the General Assembly at the SOC’s office in the town of Azaz in rural Aleppo on Wednesday.
The meeting brought together Secretary of the political committee, Riad Al-Hassan, members of the committee Abdullah Kaddo, Bahjat Atassi, and Yasser Al-Farhan, members of the General Assembly Abdul Ilah Fahd, Adnan Rahmoun, Najib Rahmoun, Zakariya Malahifji, and Coordinator of the SOC’s office in rural Aleppo Ahmed Al-Shehadi.
Participants assessed the results of the 53rd session of the General Assembly and discussed ways to implement the decisions and recommendations put forward during the session.
Al-Hariri talked about the SOC’s efforts to strengthen the relationship with civil society organizations operating in the liberated areas and activating their role, especially in these difficult circumstances.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Department of Refugee Affairs, Adnan Rahmoun, presented a report on the conditions in the IDP camps and their numbers. As of the date of preparing the report, the number of IDP camps has reached 1,160, including 1,029 camps in Idlib province and 131 in Aleppo province.
Rahmoun pointed out that these camps are home to about 1.5 million people who live in extremely dire humanitarian conditions due to almost total lack of basic necessities. He stressed the urgent need for all types of support to help the IDP cope with the harsh winter, especially as expectations indicate that this winter will be harsher than before.
Al-Hariri stressed that the SOC is communicating with all friendly countries, donors and international organizations in order to secure urgent support and meet the needs of the IDP. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
