President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, held a virtual meeting with the permanent representative of France to the United Nations, Nicolas de Rivière, and discussed with him the latest developments in Syria on the sidelines of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting brought together Coordinator of the SOC’s Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulahad Asteipho, the SOC’s representative to the United Nations, Maryam Jalabi, and the SOC’s representative to France, Noureddine al-Labbad.
Al-Hariri stressed the importance of accountability and prevention of impunity as essential to reaching a sustainable political solution in accordance with UN resolution 2254 and restoring stability in the region.
The two sides underscored that the only solution in Syria is through the full implementation of UN resolution 2254, stressing the need to achieve a real progress in the work of the Constitutional Committee and discuss the rest of the baskets in parallel with the work of the Committee.
For his part, De Rivière reaffirmed his country’s support for the SOC and the cause of the Syrian people; ensuring that the SOC’s voice is heard loud and clear at the United Nations and UN Security Council; and upholding its legitimacy in international forums.
The French diplomat pointed out that the international community recognizes the positive, serious engagement of the Syrian Negotiations Commission in the constitutional talks, stressing that the Assad regime continues to collapse despite its claims of achieving victory.
