The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Legal and Human Rights Working Group is organizing a workshop on developing the legislative mechanism in the liberated areas. The event will be held next Friday, November 29, with the participation of a group of judges, legal experts, researchers, and activists.
The workshop is titled: “The Practical Implications of Existing Legislation: Challenges and Solutions.” It will examine the legal texts currently in effect, the role of the legislative authority in achieving justice and upholding the rule of law, and the application of legislation in courts, including differences in interpretation. A critical analysis of relevant legal provisions will also be conducted.
Additionally, the workshop will study a real-world case, focusing on the practical implications of Article 263 of the Penal Code on individuals and society. Participants will hear firsthand accounts and stories from those affected. The session will then open for public discussion on the varying experiences in applying Article 263. The Legal and Human Rights Working Group will also present a paper.
