The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) on Friday held a workshop to discuss a draft paper on local administration in the new constitution of Syria.
The workshop brought together Secretary of the political committee, Riyad Al-Hassan, members of the political committee and General Assembly Abdullah Kaddou, Salim Al-Khatib, Najib Rahmoun, Firas Al-Masry, and experts in the local councils.
Participants discussed the powers of local councils, the expanded administrative decentralized system, and adding a clause to adopt subsequent oversight in accordance with the principles of Syrian law.
They stressed the importance of consolidation of good governance in the work of local councils in the future. They also submitted a proposal on local administrations to be placed within the preamble of the constitution, and also drafted constitutional provisions regulating the work of the elected local councils.
