The Al-Jazira and Euphrates Working Group of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) is set to host a workshop on the latest ground and political developments in the Al-Jazira and Euphrates region. The event will take place in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa next Wednesday, with the participation of members from Syrian research centers, media professionals specializing in regional affairs, and representatives of societal groups representing the region’s diverse components.
The workshop is structured into four sessions. The first session will focus on the tribal uprising in the eastern Euphrates against the PYD terrorist militia. Attendees will delve into the roots, direct and indirect causes of the tribal uprising, as well as the responses and stances of the United States and regional actors, along with the ensuing developments and outcomes.
In the second session, participants will analyze the escalation between Iranian militias and international coalition forces east of the Euphrates. Discussions will encompass the military presence of Iranian militias and coalition forces on both riverbanks, recent developments in clashes between them, Iran’s attempts to exploit regional conflicts, the PYD militia’s position amidst these developments, consequences of clashes between coalition forces and Iranian militias, and possibilities for escalation or de-escalation.
The third session will examine the latest social and political trends regarding the PYD militia, tribal responses following the uprising, and the role of the international coalition in de-escalating tensions.
Concluding the workshop, the fourth session will address violations and human rights conditions in the region. It will shed light on ongoing actions by the PYD terrorist militia, including child abduction, forced recruitment, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, village demolitions, forced displacements, crop destruction, and terrorist acts in populated areas.
