The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stressed that those who wish to support a solution in Syria must dedicate all efforts to reach a political solution; remove all obstacles on the ground; and not to allow so-called investment, services, or administrative understandings or agreements to be reached with the PYD militia or any other terrorist organizations that control areas in northern and eastern Syria.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC stressed that such agreements pose a threat to Syria’s unity and sovereignty as well as cause harm to the Kurdish issue.
The SOC stressed that separatist terrorist organizations with anti-national agendas should not be given further opportunities for expansion and empowerment through frameworks that contradict the sanctions system and the positions related to rebuilding projects in Syria, which must remain fully linked to the political solution.
“The contradictory attitudes towards the components of this terrorist organization by a number of international actors represent a violation of law and pose a threat to the security of the region. Moreover, these attitudes send certain messages to terrorists everywhere and cause confusion to the principled position towards terrorism and terrorist organizations.”
The SOC went on to say that “any moves, understandings, or agreements that external parties reach with these organizations are rejected as well as null and void as they were not reached with any party that represents the Syrian people or their interests, neither at the local or the international level, not on paper or within the framework of the law, including the agreements relating to the management of national assets and any agreements that affect the sovereignty of Syria and the rights of its people.”
The SOC called on all international organizations and institutions as well as international actors to express serious positions towards the dangers posed by these agreements; condemn these moves that reinforce terrorism; and to realize their serious dangers to the peace and unity of Syria and the region.
