Enas Al-Najjar, a member of the Refugee and Displaced Persons Working Group in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) and the Communications Director of the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee, participated in a meeting held by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya with civil society organizations in Ankara. The meeting focused on the status of Syrian refugees in Türkiye.
Al-Najjar explained that the meeting aimed to clarify new measures issued by the Turkish Ministry of Interior regarding the legal status of Syrian refugees in Türkiye, as well as the issue of voluntary return.
She pointed out that the Turkish Interior Minister’s remarks were reassuring, as he emphasized the continuation of the temporary protection policy and the provision of numerous facilitations for those wishing to voluntarily return to their homes as stability in Syria improves. However, he ruled out reopening the border crossings for visits at this time, prioritizing voluntary return instead.
Al-Najjar stressed the importance of Syrian refugees adhering to Turkish regulations and refraining from heading to border crossings without ensuring they have the necessary documentation and understanding of the crossing procedures.
