President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Nasr Al-Hariri, held a virtual meeting with the German Consul General in Istanbul, Johannes Regenbrecht, and discussed with him the latest developments in Syria.
In attendance were also SOC’s Vice-president Ruba Habboush, Coordinator of the SOC’s Department of Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, and member of the SOC’s political committee Abdullah Kaddo.
Al-Hariri talked about the results of the fourth round of talks by the Constitutional Committee and the regime’s continued attempts to disrupt the work of the Committee. He pointed out that the Assad regime continues to procrastinate in order to hold the upcoming illegitimate presidential elections.
Al-Hariri stressed the need for increased international efforts to activate the four baskets laid out in the political process, which is based on UN resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The two sides also discussed the humanitarian situation in the liberated areas as al-Hariri called for stepping up humanitarian aid to civilians and support for the medical sector to help it confront the coronavirus pandemic. He also called for increasing support for the Syrian Interim Government to enable it to manage the freed territories. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
