President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi al-Bahra, reaffirmed the commitment to prosecute those responsible for the horrific chemical attack against the people of eastern Ghouta in the Damascus suburbs. He vowed that the perpetrators will not escape justice despite international inaction and the failure to implement UN resolutions on Syria.
Today, the Syrian people commemorate the 11th anniversary of the chemical attack carried out by the Assad regime in eastern and western Ghouta in the Damascus countryside in 2013. The attack resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including 1,144 individuals whose names have been fully documented, among them 99 children and 194 women. Additionally, 5,935 people suffered suffocation, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
Al-Bahra recalled that on this day eleven years ago, the people of Ghouta were subjected to a devastating sarin nerve agent attack by the Assad regime, leading to the deaths of more than 1,144 people.
He emphasized that the horrific images of children gasping for breath will never be forgotten by the Syrian people, and vowed that the Assad regime will not be allowed to evade punishment, despite the significant international inaction and the global community’s failure to enforce UN Resolution 2118 of 2013.
Al-Bahra stressed that the revolution continues in honor of the victims and their families, for the sake of justice and accountability, for the reconstruction and peace, and for freedom and democracy in a Syria governed by its own people, with no place for war criminals.
