The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) received a delegation from the US-based Syrian Emergency Task Force and the M Night Shyamalan Foundation. The two sides discussed the latest field and political developments in Syria and the important role of the Syrian communities in the US in supporting the Syrian cause and conveying the Syrian people’s voice to the public opinion.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice President for Foreign Affairs Abdulahad Astepho, Secretary of the political committee Abdul Majid Barakat, Executive Director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force Muaz Mustafa, member of the Executive Office Jerry Adams, Syrian activist Omar Alshogre, Vice President of the M Night Shyamalan Foundation Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan, and a team from the Foundation.
The discussions focused on the issue of detainees and the need to step up cooperation in order to maintain pressure on Russia and the Assad regime to release detainees and disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared.
The two sides also talked about Caesar’s Act and the sanctions imposed on the Assad regime, stressing the need to maintain these sanctions and to prevent the Assad regime and its collaborators from circumventing them.
Moreover, they discussed the conditions in al-Rukban refugee camp and the years-long blockade imposed on by the Assad regime and its allies. They stressed the need to end the siege and deliver urgent humanitarian and medical aid to the population.
The two sides also discussed the importance of focusing on the liberated areas, supporting the population living there, improving the living conditions and basic services, and representing the IDPs in a real, equitable manner in the SOC.
Alshogre stressed that the SOC is the political entity that represents the Syrian people. He pointed to the need for the SOC to assume its role in defending and advocating the Syrian people’s cause, and in reaching a political solution that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
The two sides agreed on the need for holding regular meetings to follow thorough the common issues and continue cooperation and coordination so as to serve the Syrian people and achieve their demands.
