President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Nasr Al-Hariri, met with members of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a US-based non-profit organization, and discussed with them a number of important issues, especially the appointment of a new SOC representative in the US and the implementation of the Caesar Act.
In attendance was also Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee Hadi Al-Bahra, Secretary of the political committee Riyad Al-Hassan, and member of the General Assembly Abdul Ilah Fahd.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint work in all areas in order to urge the US administration to contribute to finding effective mechanisms to support the cause of the Syrian people in building a democratic state and achieve accountability.
They also stressed the importance of implementing the Caesar Act with all its provisions. They also discussed the new steps to be taken to urge Washington to activate a new package of sanctions against the Assad regime and its backers.
Participants in the meeting discussed the role of the SOC’s representative in the US and the need to coordinate efforts with the Syrian community in the US with the aim of mobilizing support for the Syrian revolution and ensure more support from the US administration and US Congress so as to revitalize the political process and reach a political solution in accordance with UN Resolution 2254.
Furthermore, the two sides emphasized the need for swift, effective action to support the liberated areas in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and to provide humanitarian assistance to the displace people. They stressed the need for international action to ensure the release of detainees, especially in light of the major outbreak of the coronavirus in the regime-held areas. They also warned against the regime’s exploitation of the crisis and get rid of detainees by claiming they died of the pandemic.
