Head of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office in Ankara, Ahmed Bakkoura, met with Head of Corporate Relations and Communication Department at the Turkish Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) Mr. Ahmet Atabas and Assistant Specialist Pelin Eroğlu. In attendance was also Communication Officer of the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee Inas Najjar.
The two sides discussed a report prepared by the SOC in cooperation with the Center for Strategic Studies in Ankara on the issues and problems that Syrian students are facing when applying for scholarships. They also discussed the criteria for the granting of scholarships and the possibility of standardizing the application tests for all Syrian students, taking into account the psychological conditions that Syrian students suffer from, especially in light of the coronavirus outbreak and distance learning.
They also discussed a proposal to include university students in the liberated areas within the scholarship scheme, and also include the Mardin Artuklu University with its Arabic department within the same scheme.
They also discussed drawing up a framework for cooperation in the area of training and working to develop the skills of Syrian students in Turkish universities, as well as strengthening the means of communication between Syrian students and YTB.
The two sides stressed the need to develop communication channels between Syrian media workers and YTB and to develop a plan to introduce scholarships to Syrian students. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
