The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the death of four children in a brutal attack by the Assad regime forces in rural Idlib on Monday is a crime that requires a tough stance from the international community to deter the murderous regime from targeting civilians, especially children.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC said that the Assad regime forces shelled the town of Ma’aret Al-Na’asan in rural Idlib with artillery, the third day of the holy month of Ramadan, killing four schoolchildren who were on their way home from school.
“Meanwhile, the Russian occupation jets were bombing the towns of Esfouhin and Fleifil in Jabal Al-Zawiya region in rural Idlib, thus aiding the Assad regime in the killing and terrorizing of civilians in the freed territories.”
The SOC added: “This brutal attack coincided with the fifth anniversary of the Khan Sheikhoun Massacre, which was committed by the Assad regime using chemical weapons and claimed the lives of 91 civilians.”
“The Assad and Putin regimes continue to violate the ceasefire agreements, seeking to disrupt civilian life and destabilize the freed territories.”
The SOC stressed that “the Assad regime and Russian killing machines continue to kill civilians in the liberated areas without any real international deterrence, despite the exposure of their policies aimed at destruction and killings.”
“It is imperative that the international community confront these grave violations against our people in the freed territories. These attacks also require the immediate implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Syria, especially Resolution 2254, to put an end to the tragedy that has been unfolding for over eleven years during which the Syrian people suffered the oppression and criminality of Assad’s forces and its allied militias.”
