The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Unions and Syndicates and the Office of Civil Society Organizations held a meeting with the Russol Organization for People with Disabilities to discuss the importance of cooperation and the need to support this group of society.
The meeting brought together Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Unions and Syndicates, Abdul Majeed Barakat, Coordinator of the Office of Civil Society Organizations Zuhair Muhammad, SOC’s member Kifah Murad, Head of Russol Organization, Muwaffaq Haroun, and Secretary General of the Syrian National Olympic Committee Ahmed Al-Ali who participated via a video link.
Haroun gave an overview on the Organization’s activities, which focus mainly on people with disabilities resulting from war injuries, the majority of whom were injured as a result of indiscriminate bombing by the Assad regime.
Haroun pointed out that the Organization’s activities target Syrian refugees in Turkey and the freed territories in northwestern Syria, adding that the Organization has established a basketball team of players on wheelchairs in southern Turkey.
Haroun called on the Syrian National Olympic Committee to involve the team in its activities.
Barakat and Al-Ali talked about the work of the Syrian National Olympic Committee, highlighting its current role in organizing the free Syrian sports. They gave an overview on the sports activities the Committee organized on Turkish territory and in the liberated areas in northwestern Syria.
Barakat praised the work of the Russol Organization and its distinguished activity to help people with disabilities, stressing the importance of continuing to support this social group and working to find solutions to empower and strengthen them.
Muhammad talked about the importance of the Organization’s work as he indicated that the number of people with permanent injuries and amputees exceeded 100,000, the majority of which were as a result of bombardment by the Assad regime.
It was agreed that Al-Ali would visit the Organization’s office in the town of Reyhanli and check up on its activities in the sports and coordinate efforts between the Committee and the Organization. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
