The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) saluted women on their international day, especially Syrian women who have been making tremendous sacrifices in the battle against injustice in all its forms.
In a press release marking International Women’s Day, the SOC reminded the world of the tremendous efforts Syrian women are making on various fronts: their selfless devotion, hard work, caring for their family and their revolution, and their resilience throughout the revolution.
“While the world marks this day and while women celebrate this occasion, thousands of Syrian women are still held in the dungeons and prisons of the Assad regime, enduring unspeakable suffering and yearning for freedom. This requires a serious international stance to ensure freedom and salvation for all female detainees,” the SOC added.
The SOC added that Syrian women will remain the pillar that holds thousands of families together, and the safe haven and hope for rebuilding Syrian society and weaving a cohesive social fabric.
“It is imperative for Syrian women to regain the right to a decent life, freedom, and security, so that they assume a role that befits themselves and the size of their sacrifices. They also need to assume their natural place in leadership and the efforts to build the new Syria.”
The SOC paid tribute to the shining examples of struggle and heroism Syrian women have presented throughout their revolutionary struggle. “Syrian female revolutionaries, detainees, fallen heroes, and mothers of fallen heroes and detainees have suffered various forms of oppression and criminality. However, they are continuing their revolution in the face of the murderous Assad regime.”
The SOC emphasized the pivotal role of Syrian women and the importance of their participation in the political and revolutionary work as well as their involvement in the decision-making, implementation, and administration. The SOC also stressed the need to step up efforts to overcome any barriers that hinder their full participation in building Syria’s present and future in a manner befitting their position.
