The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that it is closely following the details of the assault by a police officer on journalists in the town of Al-Bab in rural Aleppo. It also said that it is working with the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) and the Ministry of Interior to control the actions of the police force and prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC stressed that these actions “contravene the Syrian Revolution and do not express the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity and democracy.”
The SOC stressed the need to put in place strict measures in order to prevent any such transgressions that undermine the collective efforts of the police force and the Ministry of Interior. “These have a significant role in thwarting the attempts by terrorist organizations to destabilize the liberated areas.”
The SOC emphasized “freedom of the press, media and freedom of expression as well as the need to safeguard the rights of media professionals and journalists and to facilitate their work in the liberated areas.”
The SOC also reaffirmed its support for all forms of peaceful popular movement that demonstrate the people’s awareness and keenness to present a successful model of governance in the liberated areas. “Indeed, these peaceful protests are one of the most important gains of the great Syrian revolution.”
The SOC expressed its support for the just demands being made by the Syrian doctors and medical staff in the town of Al-Bab, stressing its firm belief that Syria will not advance without the efforts of its sons and daughters, their sacrifices, and their keenness on the prosperity of their country.
