The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) has signed an agreement with the French government for the establishment of a new partnership in favor of supporting the Syrian Women’s Commission. As per the agreement, the Commission will hold a series of workshops and training courses with the operational support of the Stabilization Support Unit. The move aims to empower Syrian women and support their engagement in the political decision-making.
The agreement was signed by the SOC’s Vice-president and Head of the Syrian Women’s Commission Ruba Habboush, and the French Ambassador to Turkey Herve Magro at the SOC’s headquarters in Istanbul. The signing took place under the auspices SOC’s President Salem Al-Meslet and Secretary-General Haitham Rahma. In attendance was also the implementing party, represented by the Executive Director of the Stabilization Support Unit Munther Al-Sallal.
Habboush said that one of the main goals of the establishment of the Syrian Women’s Commission is to improve the reality of Syrian women, safeguard their rights, and ensure their participation in decision-making centers, in addition to upholding the principle of equal and effective citizenship in a society where justice and equal opportunities prevail.
Habboush also stressed the need to guarantee the constitutional and legal rights of Syrian women, as well as to empower them politically, socially, economically and legally in order to ensure their active participation in the assumption of tasks and decision-making. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
