The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that removing Cham Wings Airlines from the list of entities subject to European sanctions is unacceptable, as this company continues to support the Assad regime. It also stressed the importance of the Western sanctions on the Assad regime and the necessity of maintaining and expanding them to include all sources of revenues for the criminal Assad regime.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the SOC said that Cham Wings is known for supporting the Assad and Russian regimes by moving militias and mercenaries and supporting the two regimes in their wars against the freedom of peoples. It made it clear that removing this entity from the sanctions list sends wrong messages to all war criminals and their supporters in the world.
The SOC warned against inaction towards the Assad regime or easing the restrictions imposed on it. It added: “The reasons for which these sanctions were imposed are still in place and even aggravated. The Assad regime continues to commit war crimes against the Syrian people, and even sends terrorist militias to fight in Ukraine and elsewhere. It has also become a partner in the aggression of Russia and Iran in the region and beyond.”
The SOC called for more deterrent measures for the criminal regime and its backers, the activation of new means to impose a political transition in Syria, and the implementation of relevant UN resolutions.
