The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Salem Al-Meslet, reiterated that the SOC and the Syrian revolution forces continue to rely on the steadfast and sincere positions of their Arab brethren in opposing efforts to legitimize the Assad regime and disregard the deaths of a million Syrian citizens at the hands of the regime.
Al-Meslet praised Qatar’s unequivocal rejection of any normalization with the criminal Assad regime, stating that the Syrian people would always remember Qatar’s leadership in supporting their quest for freedom and justice through its political and humanitarian actions over the years.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the SOC maintained that the Assad regime has employed criminality and terrorism to quell the Syrian people’s demand for freedom for the past 12 years. It further emphasized that the regime has committed unspeakable crimes, using internationally banned weapons such as chemical weapons, barrel bombs, and others against the Syrian people.
These atrocities demand serious and concrete action from Arab nations and the international community to hold the Assad regime accountable and pressure it to genuinely engage in the political process and not overlook its crimes.
The SOC called on their Arab brethren to reconsider their stances concerning the criminal Assad regime and to maintain their honorable positions, necessitating the isolation of the regime and holding it accountable for the heinous acts committed against the Syrian people and the peoples of the region.
