The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) welcomed all efforts to support the Syrian people and help them overcome the disaster that the Assad regime has brought on them by its criminal war that has been ongoing for the past ten years.
In a press release issued on Friday, the SOC said that “the Syrian people in their entirety feel reassured when sister and friendly states participate in initiatives that would alleviate their suffering and relieve the millions of refugees and displaced people.”
“We are fully aware of the destructive, obstructive nature of the Russian role in Syria, best manifested in Russia’s insistence on popping up the Assad regime and aiding it in killing and displacing the Syrian people,” the SOC said.
“However, we are confident in the ability of our brothers in Turkey and Qatar to coordinate their efforts and contribute to this issue in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people, and in a way that prevents the Assad regime and its backers from exploiting the summit to cause more harm to Syrian civilians.”
The SOC stressed that its vision for a solution “has always been based on international resolutions. Any international initiative or effort to save the Syrian people must be based on implementing UN resolutions, holding war criminals accountable, and ensuring that they do not escape punishment in parallel with working towards achieving a transition to a civil political system in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
