The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi al-Bahra, welcomed the joint statement issued by the governments of the United States, the Arab Contact Group, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the UN Special Envoy to Syria. The statement was made on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Joint Contact Group on Syria, held on December 14, 2024, in Aqaba, Jordan.
Al-Bahra expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support for the Syrian people during this critical juncture in their history as they work toward building a prosperous future. He acknowledged their commitment to principles that serve the interests of the Syrian people, the region, and the world during this pivotal time.
He further emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines of the political transition process, which must be Syrian-led and Syrian-owned. The process should result in the formation of an inclusive, non-sectarian, and representative government, established through a transparent process based on the principles of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Al-Bahra commended the commitment of the participating countries to supporting the Syrian people and collaborating with them, considering this an important legitimization of this unprecedented transitional phase.
