The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Al-Jazira and Euphrates Committee held its periodic meeting to discuss the latest developments in the eastern Euphrates regions and the results of its work and its findings in the eastern provinces. The Committee also reviewed the results of its work regarding the formation of political bureaus representing the three provinces of Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Hasaka.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-president and Coordinator of the Committee, Oqab Yahya, Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulahad Asteipho, SOC’s members Ahmed Tomeh, Muhammed Wali, Muhammad Ali Issa, and Abdullah Al-Faraj.
Yahya pointed out that the Raqqa province group has selected 15 personalities to form the political bureau from among 260 people, adding that members of the bureau will hold their first meeting with the SOC’s leadership shortly.
Yahya pointed to serious efforts to choose the appropriate bodies for each province and form a unified body for the three provinces, indicating that the formation of these bureaus will significantly contribute to reaching representation and addressing the issues of the eastern region.
Tomeh pointed out that Deir Ezzor province group is in the process of forming the National Charter for Deir Ezzor Province, adding that the Committee has already invited civil and political figures in the province to agree on them and to form the political bureau that represents the province.
Members of the Committee stressed the need to complete this move in order to find real bodies representing the demands of the people of the three provinces; to make their voices heard to the international community; and to highlight their suffering resulting from the crimes of the PYD militia.
