President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr al-Hariri, sent a letter of congratulations to the new Canadian Minister of Transport, the Syrian-born Omar Alghabra.
“On behalf of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces (SOC), and on behalf of the Syrian people, I am pleased to express my sincere congratulations on your appointment as Minister of Transport of Canada,” the letter said.
“We are very proud of you as a Syrian Canadian who reached a prominent position in Canada.”
He added: “We express our hope that Syrians everywhere will always be a source of pride and their impressive achievements will prove to the whole world that the Syrian people are hard-working, resilient, and deserve a better life than the one they live under the rule of the Assad regime.
“We affirm our confidence in your commitment to support the just cause of the Syrian people, and stress the importance of taking actual steps to achieve a complete and real political transition, in accordance with the Geneva Communiqué, Security Council Resolutions 2118 and 2254 and United Nations General Assembly Resolution 67/262 to reach a comprehensive political solution that fulfils the aspirations of the Syrian people, and helps them in overcoming this difficult plight and in building a state based on freedom, justice and good governance.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
