A delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), headed by President Salem Al-Meslet, met with representatives of the Syrian community who are active in public affairs with regard to Syrian nationals in Egypt, workers in the Hajj file, and a number of public figures.
The delegation comprised the SOC’s Vice-president for Foreign Relations Abdulahad Astepho, Secretary General Haitham Rahma, and member of the Political Committee Badr Jamous.
Al-Meslet talked about the SOC’s political activity in light of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, its efforts at this important juncture to expose Russia’s crimes in Syria, and emphasize the illegitimacy of the criminal Assad regime that brought the Russian and Iranian occupiers.
Al-Meslet pointed out that the SOC is seeking to step up meetings with the Syrian communities in several countries, stressing the importance of these communities and their pivotal role in the Syrian revolution. He noted that the SOC is also seeking to enhance the representation of these communities in the SOC so as to increases cohesion between the Syrian people and revolutionary institutions.
Al-Meslet also stressed that the SOC gives priority to the issue of detainees, especially women and children, pointing out that the Syrians from all backgrounds are demanding the release of detainees from the prisons of the Assad regime. He cited the SOC’s efforts in international forums and its role in initiating lawsuits against the Assad regime and conveying the testimonies of female survivors from Assad’s prisons to international courts.
Astepho spoke about the need for continuous communication with the Syrian community, stressing the importance of political and national independence and seeking to expand the margin of maneuver in light of the regional and international polarizations in the region in general and in Syria in particular.
Jamous gave an overview on the Russian aggression against Ukraine, pointing out that the world will witness more painful scenes like the ones it has already seen in Syria, from destruction, killing, to columns of displaced people and refugees, unless there is serious international action to put an end to this aggression.
Rahma reaffirmed the SOC’s keenness to strengthen its relations with its Arab fold, stressing that it is seeking to establish distinguished relations with the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and all Arab brothers.
