Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) for Foreign Affairs, Abdulahad Astepho, presented a report on the work of the Department of Foreign Relations to the General Assembly at its 61st session.
Astepho gave an overview on the activities that the Department carried out in the past two months, especially the preparations it is making at the political level as well as keeping abreast of local, regional and international events, monitoring the major challenges, identifying tools, and putting forward recommendations and proposals.
Astepho also talked about the follow-up on the commemoration of the eleventh anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution in the host countries, and the Department’s preparations, in cooperation with the SOC’s office in New York, to participate in United Nations Arria-formula meeting due to be held next month.
Moreover, Astepho also spoke about the Department’s following of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and its impact on Syria. He pointed out that the SOC made daily contacts with the Ukrainian authorities in order to establish a channel of cooperation between the two sides.
He also gave an overview of the work of the SOC’s foreign missions in a number of Arab and Western countries, pointing out that the Department had assessed the work of the SOC’s foreign missions and embassies.
Astepho said that the Department is working on a number of files in the period to come within a clearly defined plan to keep pace with events and achieve the goals agreed upon with the presidential body.
