Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulahad Asteipho, met with Political Advisor for the Syria Team at the Dutch foreign ministry, Rana Abbawi, and discussed with her the latest on the ground and political developments in Syria.
Asteipho stressed the importance of accountability and preventing impunity for criminals as he urged the Dutch government to commit to this issue as essential to ensuring sustainable peace and the cohesion of the Syria social fabric.
Asteipho commended Netherlands’ role in holding war criminals accountable and its support for the work of human rights organizations working on the documentation of violations in Syria.
The two sides discussed the results of the third round of talks by the Constitutional Committee. Asteipho stressed the need to revitalize the work of the Committee and to discuss the rest of the baskets in parallel and within the framework of the full implementation of UN resolution 2254 and reaching a political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Moreover, Asteipho stressed the need to preserve the additional protocol for the ceasefire in Idlib which was signed last March and ensure the return of the displaced people and refugees to their areas of origin.
He also talked about the growing risk of a major coronavirus outbreak across Syria and the danger this spread poses to civilians in the densely populated liberated areas. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
