Vice-president of the Syrian Opposition Coalition for Foreign Affairs, Abdulahad Astepho, presented a report on the work of the Department of Foreign Relations during the past two months. The report highlighted the activities and tasks accomplished by the Department, as well as the results of the SOC’s visit to New York and Washington.
Astepho gave an overview on the course of the Department’s periodic meetings and the preparations it is making at the political level to keep abreast of the events locally, regionally and internationally. He also talked about the Department’s monitoring of the major challenges, identifying the tools and making recommendations and proposals.
Moreover, Astepho spoke about the work of the SOC’s foreign missions in Arab and Western states, noting that the Department evaluated the work of the foreign missions and embassies as well as reviewed their work reports.
Astepho also gave an overview on the Department’s work and its follow-up to the Caesar Act, and its constant communication with the US Treasury Department to determine the lists of sanctions targeting the symbols of the Assad regime.
He also pointed out that the Department is working to open new channels of communication with several states to support the Syrian people’s demands for freedom, dignity and democracy. He said that the Department sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of consolidating and strengthening relations with that country.
