The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Refugee Affairs presented its work report to the General Assembly at its 61st regular session.
The Department’s Coordinator, Adnan Al-Rahmoun, pointed out that the Department is closely following the affairs of refugees in the host countries and preparing reports on the main studies and the latest statistics on the numbers of Syrian refugees. The Department is also following the success stories of Syrian refugees in the host countries as well as the major news and issues related to the legal, social and humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees.
Al-Rahmoun gave an overview on the activities carried out by the Department in the past two months, including the meetings with the governor of the Osmaniye province, the Immigration Directorate in Gaziantep, and the assistant director of Immigration Directorate in Istanbul Sardar Dal. The meetings aimed to discuss the new procedures taken by the Turkish Ministry of Interior, in addition to follow up on the conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkish provinces.
Al-Rahmoun pointed out that the Department visited a number of IDP camps in northern Syria and the Bardarash camp for Syrian refugees in Dohuk governorate in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
He indicated that the Department held a research session on the Syrian exodus in light of the UN handling of the crisis and reviewed the most important findings of the attendees.
Al-Rahmoun also said that the Department participated in a workshop organized by the Syrian Network for Human Rights on forced displacement in Syria.
