The Syrian Opposition Opposition’s (SOC) Department of Refugee Affairs presented its work report to the General Assembly during its 59th regular session.
Coordinator of the Department Adnan Al-Rahmoun said that the Department is following the issues facing refugees in the host countries and preparing reports on the major studies and the latest figures of Syrian refugees through the work of the monitoring unit. It is also following up on the success stories of Syrians in the host countries and the news and issues related to the legal, social and humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees.
Al-Rahmoun talked about the activities carried out by the Department during the past two months. Members of the Department met with organizations and associations in Turkey in order to address the issues facing Syrian refugees.
Al-Rahmoun also said that the Department is following the issues of Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Lebanon, Denmark and Sweden, in addition to the problems facing Syrian refugees at the Belarusian-Polish borders.
Al-Rahmon put forth a set of recommendations, most notably the need to communicate with the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Refugees and the European Union to put an end to the suffering of refugees stranded on the Belarusian-Polish border. They also include arranging meetings with ambassadors of Belarus and Poland in Ankara to discuss the situation of refugees on the borders of the two countries and arranging an urgent visit to Poland to follow up on the situation of stranded refugees.
Al-Rahmoun stressed the need to send letters to the United Nations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to help Syrian refugees in host countries and protect them from forced repatriation, including Denmark, Sweden, Lebanon and other countries. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
