Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office for Syndicates and Sports Unions, Abdel Majid Barakat, presented a report on the Office’s work in recent months detailing the achievements of the Olympic Committee, as well as the difficulties facing unions and their activities in the liberated areas.
Barakat pointed out that the Office held many meetings and communications with revolutionary actors, youth associations and unions. He stressed the importance of strengthening communications with everyone and supporting their role in the Syrian revolution, and establishing a framework for licensing and legalizing the work of associations and unions.
Barakat pointed out that the Office met with the Union of Aleppo Revolutionaries and that they agreed to connect the sports office that the Union established with the Syrian National Olympic Committee in order to coordinate sports work. The Office also met with the Association of Syrian Revolutionary Youth and agreed on cooperation and coordination. He also talked about the activities of the Syrian National Olympic Committee in the liberated areas, the tournaments that it organized, and the conditions of the sports unions affiliated with the Committee.
Barakat stressed that the Committee continues to work for the qualification of the sports staff and establish a real, professional sport in the liberated areas, achieve the aspirations of the Syrian athletes, and give them official cover. He pointed out that sport contributes to achieving integration among Syrians and achieving civil peace.
