President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Salem al-Meslet and members of the political committee and general Assembly met with representatives of the Syrian civic bodies in the Turkish city of Mersin. The SOC’s delegation were briefed on the conditions of the Syrian community in the city as well as the major challenges and difficulties facing them.
The meeting brought together Secretary of the political committee Abdul Majid Barakat, SOC’s members Riyad Al-Hassan, Ahmed Ramadan, Zakariya Malahifji and the SOC’s representative in Mersin Fadi Ibrahim.
Al-Meslet spoke about the SOC’s activities at the international political level and its communications with friendly and sisterly states with the aim of pushing for the implementation of UN resolutions on Syria, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN resolutions 2118 and 2254, and reaching political transition that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
Al-Meslet gave an overview on the SOC’s ongoing efforts to force the Assad regime to stop its onslaught on Dara’a province. He stressed that the murderous regime will not change its behavior, which requires concrete action by the international community to protect civilians from the Assad regime’s crimes.
Al-Meslet also stressed the importance of continuing these meetings and participatory work in order to help the Syrian refugees in Mersin and meet their needs.
