The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syndicates and Unions met with the General Commission of the Association of Syrian Hajj Campaign, and Director of the Syrian Hajj. They stressed the need for the Hajj file to be national and provide its services to everyone regardless of their political affiliations and attitudes.
The meeting brought together SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri, Coordinator of the Office of Syndicates and Unions, Abdul Majeed Barakat, SOC’s member Muhammad Shukry, Director of the Syrian Hajj Committee, Samer Bayraktar, and representatives of the Union of Hajj Workers.
The SOC commended the work of the Hajj Committee and the services provided to the Syrians in this sacred ritual. It stressed the continued commitment to assume the responsibility of this sovereign file and ensure the advancement of the services provided through it.
The SOC emphasized that the presence of civil society organizations alongside the Hajj committee is a positive and helpful thing to the Committee’s work, provided that they abide by the rules of the work of civil society organizations. He added that competition among services unions is a positive thing in general as it ensures the continuous improvement of the services.
The Office outlined its vision of seeking to empower unions in the political, sports and legal areas and unifying all the sectors of the same specialization. He stressed rejection of interfering in the work of these unions, but rather to work on framing their work and uniting their efforts in serving the Syrian people and their cause. He also said that SOC is also working to secure legal cover for the unions and to ensure that unions are established on legal grounds.
