Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syrian Communities Abroad, Muhammed Yahya Maktabi, presented a report on the Office’s work over the past two months to the General Assembly at its 57th session.
Maktabi said that the Office organized several meetings during the past month, most notably the virtual meeting with Syrian-American organizations on June 6.
He also gave an overview on the activities and events that the Office organized inside and outside Syria regarding the farcical elections that the Assad regime held in its areas. He pointed out that preparations continue for the convening of the Conference of Syrian Communities around the world.
He also talked about the meeting with leaders of the Syrian-American organizations operating in the United States, which stressed the need for the continued delivery of relief aid via the freed border crossings. The meeting also stressed the need to pay attention to Dara’a, which is besieged by Russia and the Assad regime who are blocking access to basic necessities and aggravating the humanitarian situation in the city.
Maktabi stressed the importance of continuing to coordinate positions between Syrian communities around the world and the SOC and utilize potential of the communities, especially with regard to communicating with civil society organizations and mobilizing world opinion for the benefit of the Syrian people and their rights.
