The political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) convened its regular meeting on Thursday, with President Hadi Al-Bahra and his deputies, Abdul Majeed Barakat and Abdul Hakim Bashar, along with Secretary-General Haytham Rahmeh, delivering updates on their recent activities.
Al-Bahra highlighted the outcomes of the SOC’s recent visit to liberated areas in northern Syria, emphasizing engagements with local councils, unions, civil society organizations, and popular groups, stressing the imperative of addressing key demands and enhancing judicial structures to foster security and stability in the region.
Additionally, representatives from SOC offices in Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, France, Mersin, and Gaziantep outlined their recent diplomatic efforts and service provisions for Syrians in their respective regions.
Work reports were presented by SOC working groups, including political parties, communities, unions, and organizations, with a particular emphasis from the Syrian Communities Working Group on bolstering connections with Syrian diaspora communities.
Ahmed Tomeh, a member of the Strategic Studies and Consultations Working Group, provided insights into the potential impacts of a U.S. withdrawal from Syria, efforts to combat the regime’s Captagon trade, the broader fight against drug trafficking, and outcomes from the International Ceasefire Working Group’s meeting in Geneva.
