The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting in which it discussed the latest field and political developments. It called on all Syrians to demonstrate against the Assad regime and show solidarity with the people in al-Suwayda. In attendance was SOC’s President Salem Al-Meslet.
Al-Meslet praised the bravery of the people of Al-Suwayda and their continued demonstrations against the Assad regime. He also lauded the protestors’ demands for achieving political transition and the implementation of UN resolution 2254, reaffirming the support of the SOC and the Syrian people for the anti-regime uprising in al-Suwayda.
Al-Meslet pointed out that our people in the regime-held areas are fed up with the regime’s policies after the serious deterioration of living conditions due to the regime’s rampant corruption and its looting of the country’s resources. Al-Meslet called on all Syrians, especially our people in the coast, to go out in demonstrations against the regime and to support our people in Al-Suwayda and their brave protests.
Moreover, al-Meslet gave an overview on the results of his meeting with the Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay and the results of the Doha symposium.
SOC’s Vice President Abdulahad Astepho talked about the work of the Department of Foreign Relations. The committee discussed the weekly political events and made an assessment of the political situation.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Communities Office, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, gave an overview on the meeting that brought together Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu with Syrian organizations operating in Türkiye with the aim of discussing the problems facing Syrian refugees in Türkiye.
The committee also reviewed the reports of the Military Liaison Office on the field situation, the Department of Refugee Affairs, the Al-Jazira and Euphrates Committee, in addition to the latest developments in the tragic situation in al-Rukban refugee camp.
The committee put forth a set of recommendations, most notably the establishment of a coordination mechanism between the Syrian Interim Government, the Assistance Coordination Unit and humanitarian organizations operating in Syria in order to organize work and the distribution of aid to all those in need.
