The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its periodic meeting with the chairmanship of SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri to discuss the latest developments and review reports on the work of the SOC’s offices, departments and committees.
In attendance were also President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Anas Abdah, and Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi Al-Bahra.
Participants discussed the burning of a Syrian refugee camp in the town of Minya in Lebanon as Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Refugee Affairs, Adnan Rahmoun, submitted a report on the incident. Participants discussed the conditions of the households affected by the fire and the hate speech against Syrian refugees by some personalities associated with the Assad regime and the Hezbollah militia. They stressed the need for the United Nations to assume its responsibility with regard to protecting refugees; holding criminals accountable; and preventing the recurrence of these incidents.
Abdah gave an overview on the developments in the political process as he stressed that the Commission is open to all components, especially with regard to the work of the Constitutional Committee. He added that the Commission is yet to reach tangible results, indicating that the upcoming round due to be held in January will discuss the agenda and provisions related to the constitution for the first time.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Strategic Consulting, Ahmed Ramadan, submitted a report on the current local, regional and international political developments as well as their impact on the Syrian issue.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Syrian Communities Abroad, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, talked about the Office’s work and its recent meetings with the Syrian communities in the diaspora. He also highlighted the results of the latest discussions with Syrian-American organizations, describing the discussions as important and effective as the two parties agreed on a number of joint steps.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Syndicates and Unions, Abdul Majeed Barakat, also submitted the report on the Office’s work, especially with regard to the work of the Syrian National Olympic Committee and the activities it has recently carried out in the liberated areas and its continuous efforts to organize Syrian sports.
