The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee on Sunday held an emergency meeting to discuss the latest developments in Dara’a and think of effective measures to ensure an end to the Assad regime’s brutal assault on the city. The meeting brought together all members of the presidential body, political committee, and many members of the General Assembly.
The political committee announced that it will remain in permanent session to follow up on the latest developments in Dara’a and to communicate with the people in the province with the aim of supporting their steadfastness against the Assad regime’s and its backers’ assault. The committee will also discuss ways to coordinate with the United Nations, major actors, and humanitarian and rights organizations.
The political committee is also making preparations for the launch of an international campaign that will include sending diplomatic letters and legal memoranda to foreign countries and international organizations regarding the violations being committed by the Assad regime and its backers against the people of the Dara’a.
The committee called on the international community to seek and end to the Assad regime’s onslaught on Dara’a. SOC’s President Salem al-Meslet said that the Assad regime knows nothing but murder and criminality, calling on the international community to take immediate and serious action to stop the ongoing crimes against our people in Dara’a.
Al-Meslet pointed out that Russia is a partner in the crime and cannot be accepted as a mediator or guarantor of the agreements that have been concluded to reduce escalation and stop crimes against the Syrian people.
SOC’s member Ayman al-Asimi gave a comprehensive overview on the field situation and the latest developments in the regime’s military aggression and its attempts to storm Dara’a city. He stressed that the Assad regime and its backers are directly targeting civilians with a barrage of rockets, which further worsened civilians’ suffering and the shortages of food and medicine.
Member of the political committee Muhammad Qaddah pointed out that the Assad regime, Iran and Russia have reneged on all the agreements they previously reached with the people of Dara’a, stressing the need for urgent action by the international community to stop the assault on the city.
