SOC’s Political Committee Reviews Work Reports of Offices, Committees and Departments

The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting in the presence of President Salem Al-Meslet to discuss the latest field and political developments in Syria.

Al-Meslet gave an overview on the presidency’s work in the past week as he thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar for rejecting the return of the Assad regime to the Arab League.

Al-Meslet talked about the European Union’s decision to remove the Cham Wings Airlines from the sanctions lists, describing it as contravening the European Union’s values and declared positions.

Moreover, Al-Meslet stressed that Russia continues to blackmail the international community with regard to extending the UN authorization for the cross-border delivery of aid to Syria. He stressed the need not to give in to this blackmail and to seek to force Russia to abide by international resolutions and not to consider the issue of humanitarian aid as subject to negotiations.

SOC’s Vice President for Foreign Affairs Abdulahad Astepho talked about the meetings that the SOC held with the Syrian Emergency Organization and the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation. He stressed the importance of following the developments in the Rukban camp and co-0opting a representative of the Maghawir al-Thawra Army into the SOC.

SOC’s Vice-President Ruba Habboush gave an overview on the workshop she held with Syrian women to discuss the developments in the political process. She called for following the issue of Syrian citizens trapped in Libya, especially the women.

SOC’s Secretary-General Haytham Rahmeh gave an overview on the progress of administrative work in the General Secretariat. He talked about the efforts of the General Secretariat to communicate with the Lebanese authorities in order to urge it to address the growing racism against Syrian refugees and reconsider its plans to deport Syrian refugees to the regime-held areas.

Member of the political committee Ahmed Tomeh gave an overview on the major international and regional developments as well as the developments in the political process. He focused on the renewal of the UN authorization for the cross-border delivery of aid to northwestern Syria, the importance of the results of the Jeddah summit, and postponing the ninth session of the Constitutional Committee.

The military bloc presented a report on the field developments and the ongoing preparations for the Turkish military operation in northern Syria.

The political committee reviewed the report of the Office of Syrian Communities Abroad on its meeting with the Syrian community in the United States, the report of the Committee of Relations with Islamic Institutions, the report of the Office of Studies and Documents on water and food security in Syria, the work report of the Department of Media and Communications, and the work report of the Committee of Civil Society Organizations.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
