President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, met with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary For Near Eastern Affairs Mr. Ethan Goldrich in The Qatari Capital, Doha. The two sides discussed the latest developments on the ground and in the political process in Syria.
In attendance was also the Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Qatar, Bilal Turkiya.
Al-Meslet lauded Goldrich’s statements reaffirming the US rejection of the legitimization of the Assad regime or its return to the Arab League. He stressed the need to revitalize the political process by discussing all the provisions of UN resolution 2254, foremost of which is the formation of the Transitional Governing Body. He warned against any proposals that would derail the political process.
The two sides also discussed the conditions of detainees in the prisons of the Assad regime. Al-Meslet called for an urgent intervention by the United States to exert pressure on the Assad regime to force it to release the detainees and disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared.
The two sides also discussed the recent developments in Al-Hasakah city. Al-Meslet stressed that the Ghweiran neighborhood has never been a hotbed for ISIS militants, adding that the locals who were displaced and whose homes were bulldozed were the victims of ISIS in the first place. He pointed out that planting ISIS elements in a residential neighborhood undoubtedly aims to displace the people of this neighborhood. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
