President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, stressed Germany’s important role in supporting political transition in Syria as he commended Germany’s continued support for the just cause of the Syrian people and its hosting of tens of thousands of refugees.
Al-Meslet sent a letter to Germany’s new special envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck, congratulating him on assuming this position and wishing him success. He stressed the importance of taking effective steps to achieve a comprehensive political transition that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and the relevant United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council resolutions 2254 (2015) and 2118 (2013), and United Nations General Assembly resolution 67/262 ( 2013).
Al-Meslet said that the SOC is keen on strengthening relations with the Federal Republic of Germany by holding periodic meetings with Germany to discuss the latest developments in Syria, strengthen bilateral relations, and discuss prospects for future cooperation.
Moreover, Al-Meslet expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the people and leadership of the Federal Republic of Germany for the noble positions they have taken so far in support of the Syrian people and the Syrian revolution.
