President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, visited the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Migration Management where he met Head of the Department, Bayram Yalinsu and his deputy Serdar Dal in order to ascertain the conditions of Syrian refugees in the province and address the challenges they are facing.
Al-Meslet was accompanied by SOC’s Vice-president Ruba Habboush, Coordinator of the Department of Refugee Affairs Adnan Rahmon, and SOC’s member Youssef Mahilli.
The two sides discussed ways to improve the conditions of Syrian nationals in Turkey, especially in Istanbul. They also discussed their legal status, the possibility of addressing the legal gaps, and helping remove the obstacles they are facing and strengthen their integration into the Turkish society.
Al-Meslet thanked Turkey for receiving the largest number of Syrian refugees as he expressed his expectations that the conditions Syrian refugees are going through are taken into consideration.
Moreover, Al-Meslet stressed that the Syrian refugees are guests who are keen on respecting the local laws and feel sincere gratitude for Turkey. He stressed that Syrian refugees should not be blamed for the individual mistakes some are committing.
He also stressed the need to strengthen communication and coordination between the SOC and the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in order to better address the issues related to Syrian refugees in Turkey.
