President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, and President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Bader Jamous, visited the local council in the town of Jinderes in rural Afrin as part of a field tour to areas affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.
The delegation included SOC members Ahmed Bakkoura, Atef Zureik, and Asaad Allito, as well as the coordinator of the SOC’s office in the liberated areas, Najib Rahmon, in addition to the Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Hassan Hamada, and the Executive Director of the Assistance Coordination Unit, Muhammad Hasno.
Al-Meslet and his accompanying delegation assessed the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake in Jinderes and evaluated the urgent and necessary needs to shelter the homeless and treat the wounded. The delegation deplored the delay in UN aid and the organization’s failure to deal with the earthquake disaster, which caused the death of thousands and the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
They called on the United Nations and its organizations to assume responsibility and assist local organizations in responding to the earthquake disaster, especially since the liberated areas lack the necessary tools and materials. They stressed the need to continue cooperation and coordination to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake.
