The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Secretary-General, Abd al-Basit Abd al-Latif, visited representatives of the Syrian community in the Turkish province of Gaziantep and discussed with them the conditions of Syrian refugees in the province and the major problems and issues that need to be resolved.
Abd al-Latif was accompanied by the SOC’s representative in Gaziantep Muhammad al-Shamali, and members of the political committee Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, Yasser Al-Farhan, and Bahjat Al-Atassi.
Abd al-Latif talked about the latest on the ground and political developments. He also gave an overview on the SOC’s plan of action in the current period which focuses on improving the living conditions for the Syrian people in Syria and abroad.
He stressed that the SOC is keen on strengthening communication with all revolutionary national actors and the revolution’s social base. He pointed out that the SOC will open new offices in the liberated areas that will work alongside its executive institutions in order to address the issues and resolve problems faster, adding that three new offices were opened in the liberated areas that will be concerned with the affairs of women, the youth, and human rights.
Moreover, Abdul Latif talked about the SOC’s plans to expand its international representation to strengthen joint relations with friendly and sisterly states, adding that the SOC will appoint new foreign missions in the US and some European states made up of defectors from the Assad regime.
Coordinator of the SOC’s Communities Office, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, stressed the need to strengthen communication between the SOC and Syrians in the diaspora and to build bridges through the Syrian communities in host countries, including the Syrian community in Gaziantep.
For his part, Head of the Syrian community in Gaziantep, Mustafa Al-Hussein, welcomed the visit as he thanked the SOC’s delegation for the support voiced by President Nasr Al-Hariri for the establishment of the Office of the Syrian community in Gaziantep.
