President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, and President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Anas Abdah, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani during an official visit to the State of Qatar.
Participants discussed the latest field and political developments in Syria, especially the tragic situation in northwestern Syria and the need to support and empower the Syrian people in their homeland.
Al-Meslet commended the close, cordial relationship between the two sisterly countries as he thanked the State of Qatar for its firm positions in supporting the demands of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy, as well as its principled position in refusing to rehabilitating the regime.
Al-Meslet stressed the need to exert pressure by all friendly and sisterly countries to revitalize the political process, support the political transition, open all the tracks laid out in UN Resolution 2254, and not be reduce the resolution to the track of the Constitutional Committee.
For his part, Mr. Al Thani reaffirmed his country’s support for reaching a political solution in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254. He stressed the importance of reaching a nationwide ceasefire that contributes to facilitating humanitarian access to those in need in Syria.
