Vice-president of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Ruba Habboush presented her work report to the General Assembly during its 60th session.
Habboush gave an overview on the activities and meetings she conducted during the last period. She spoke about the seminars she participated in, most notably with the Syrian Dialogue Center on a new approach for dealing with Syria, and with the Shaan Center for Studies on increasing cooperation among Syrian women.
The report highlighted the work and activities of the Syrian Women’s Commission and its committees, the results of the workshops, and the training courses that it is conducting in cooperation with the Stabilization Support Unit in the liberated areas and Turkey with French support. The initiative aims to strengthen political participation of Syrian women and increase their representation in decision-making centers.
Habboush pointed out that the Syrian Women’s Commission is finalizing plans for upcoming activities, meetings, and political and social initiatives that will raise the voice of Syrian women and highlight their capabilities to work in public affairs and serve the issues of Syrian women.
Habboush recommended that the General Assembly establish effective mechanisms for engaging Syrian women in political formations and bodies by organizing their work, framing and training them, creating an enabling political environment and building bridges with political parties and blocs to achieve a more effective political role for Syrian women.
