The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Youth Office held a seminar under the title “Caesar’s Law and its Latest Developments” with keynote speakers including Coordinator of the Caesar Act Follow-up Team, Abdul Majid Barakat and Head of the Free Lawyers Syndicate Yassin Hilal.
The seminar also brought together SOC’s Vice-president and Coordinator of the Youth Office, Ruba Habboush, teams, organizers of initiatives, student offices in the liberated areas, and political public figures.
Abdel Majid Barakat gave a brief overview on the Caesar’s Act, the reasons for issuing it, and the laws associated with it, stressing that the Act targets political and security figures who are involved in the decision-making of the Assad regime while excluding humanitarian and medical supplies going to civilians.
Barakat also talked about the work of the SOC’s Caesar Act Follow-up Team and its communications with the states that imposed sanctions on the Assad regime with the aim of issuing laws similar to the Caesar Act and ratcheting up economic pressure on the regime and the parties supporting it.
Hilal talked about the Act’s impact on the regime, which was reflected in the rife inside the regime and the Assad family and the regime’s depletion of businessmen’s money and the economic meltdown, which prompted it to print a new banknote in recent weeks.
Participants discussed the fate of the Caesar Act under the new US administration, its role in preventing the rehabilitation of the Assad regime, and its impact on the regime’s alliances with Russia and Iran.
Habboush concluded the seminar by thanking the participants, stressing the importance of holding more seminars and activities that keep the Syrian people informed about the latest political and legal developments. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
